Our ethical principles are grounded in an understanding of liberty, equality, cooperation and spiritual realisation.
The Ethic of Reciprocity
Otherwise known as the Golden Rule, this idea is based upon empathy, or the ability to see or experience others as having similar needs, wants and desires to ourselves. When we have this realisation that others are experiencing the world as we are, we can treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves, and do so from a place of direct experience, not moral dogma.
The Scientific Method
The magickal traditions have always embraced science, and in the past were deeply intertwined world-views. Many practitioners today still see the scientific method and discoveries of science as adding to our wider understanding and the development of magick (chaos magick is an example). Magick in many senses is a science of the subjective, it aims to explore that which is inexplicable to the scientific method. That is not to say we abandon science in that endeavour, but simply that we remain open to areas beyond what science can examine. This includes qualia, synchronicity, and manifestation. Areas that bridge consciousness and wider reality.
Compassion & Non-violence
Morality, compassion and humanity do not arrive from an external deity or holy book in our understanding, they are born from conscious experience in the world (empiricism). That conscious experience is balanced with cooperation, interaction and exchange. It is via this exchange that the best world-view and social contracts are developed and our sense of what is right and good evolves.
Sacred Sexuality
Our sexualities are central to who we are, and it is our view that they should be celebrated in much the same way as life itself. Freedom of sexual expression has been central for us since the founding of this group and we support all forms of that expression. Like the early Free Love movement of the 19th century, we focus on a self defined range of choices. Therefore being celibate, non or asexual or in a love based union is seen as fully valid, as is sexual exploration in all consensual, aware and engaged forms.
The True Will
The concept of the True Will or the authentic or higher self is central to our understanding. A core purpose of sex magick is the realisation of our True Will, or to become conscious and fully integrated with our life purpose. In-line with our other values, we feel that each individual Will is equal, thus a willed action that oppresses, violates or overcomes the will of another is a misunderstanding of True Will. The True Will of any individual should complement and support the authentic experience of others, unless they would seek to harm or oppress us.
Spiritual Evolution
Unlike most traditions it is central within our understanding that ideas develop over time and are improved as new knowledge and understandings evolve. Therefore a whole philosophy can be reborn. Some religious traditions have criticised Paganism and magick for this openness to change and individual choice, but in fact it is the only way that we can come closer to what is true. Having a religious text that we cannot prove does not bring us closer to truth, because it is based upon belief and not what can be shown to be true. Science forms the foundation of our world-view, with the personal or subjective symbolic landscape forming the nuisances of our view of life beyond that foundation. Magickal experience does not override science, it gives new insights or wider interpretations to the objective nature of science.
